#MaintenanceMonday Sometimes 5 minutes is all you have and all you need to feel better about your home! Try these 6 maintenance tips to get started.
If you have one of these, you know that it will turn on you if you don’t take care of it! The odor can be no joke. Some of my favorite ways to keep ours clean & happy is (1) running it with ice cubes to sharpen the blades, (2) adding cleaning vinegar & baking soda, letting it sit, then washing it down with boiling water, or (3) using frozen, diced oranges & lemons as “fresheners”!
Something I would have never thought to clean is what’s called the “range hood filter”. It’ll look similar to this, if you have a dedicated range hood or if it’s built in under your microwave. Gently pull the tab toward the middle and take it out. I typically wash mine with Dawn dish soap (or a mixture of Dawn, vinegar & water) to break down any grease that has collected.
Check windows & doors for air leaks. Tighten any loose screws on bathroom or kitchen cabinets. Check for any loose door knobs, handles, or floor boards.
Test your smoke detectors using the built-in feature, and replace any batteries as needed. This is not only important for home maintenance- but for your family's safety!
Test your water heater's pressure relief valve and/or your water shutoff valve. Instructions can be found with a quick Google search, specifically for your system.
